According to the regional investigative department, in 2012, the body of a severely injured 46-year-old man was found near the Ilansky railway station. A criminal case was opened, but no suspects were identified, and the investigation was suspended.
In 2024, forensic experts reexamined the case and conducted a fingerprint analysis on a preserved fragment.
“In 2012, identification technologies were insufficient, but now forensic capabilities have advanced significantly,” the investigators explained. “The fingerprint matched the records of a 31-year-old man from Kansk—the nephew of the deceased, who had previously lived in Ilansky”.
The detained man immediately confessed to the crime.
Investigators reported that on the night of May 6, 2012, the 18-year-old suspect had been drinking with friends at the station. After briefly leaving the group, he ran into his uncle, who was also intoxicated. An argument ensued, quickly escalating into a conflict.
The nephew accused his uncle of being drunk and immoral, then brutally beat him—first with his fists, then with a stick. The man died from his injuries.
At first, no one suspected the young man: he claimed he had been with his friends, and they confirmed his alibi, failing to mention that he had briefly left the group.
The investigation is ongoing.
