A Moscow resident confessed to a murder committed 25 years ago

In 2024, the Moscow Prosecutor’s Office solved a 1999 murder, thanks to a renewed check of the fingerprint database. A 50-year-old woman who had stabbed a casual acquaintance was identified during the investigation of another crime.

The incident occurred on June 28, 1999, in the Eastern Administrative Okrug of Moscow. A 25-year-old woman met a man in the city center and then went with him to his apartment. After an unexpected argument (the reasons for which are not specified), she grabbed a knife and stabbed him several times. The man’s body was found a few days later when his concerned mother raised the alarm.

The offender cleaned the crime scene but left her fingerprints behind. Despite this, the investigation could not identify her for many years—she had left Moscow, presumably to hide.

The case moved forward when the woman (now living in Stavropol Krai), committed a new crime—this time, stabbing a friend. The man survived but suffered serious injuries. During a fingerprint check, the prints matched those lifted at the 1999 murder scene.

The arrested woman fully confessed to the crime. The Izmaylovo Prosecutor’s Office has completed the investigation, and the case has now been sent to court.
